Manitou Island
Located north of the Narrow bridge, this site is accessible only by boat. Transportation to and from the island is provided by us the staff at the Lake Manitoba Narrows Lodge (see below for rates).
Ever wondered how Manitoba was named? This beautiful island holds the answer. The pounding waves on the limstone beach are said by Aboriginal people to produce a loud roaring sound, the same sound made by Manitou (a spirit) beating his drums. As time passed, the Ojibawa name, Manitobau, was given to the lake (Lake Manitoba) and eventually to the province.
